Resen

Resen – city in the southwestern part of the Republic of Macedonia with 8,748 h. (2002). It lies in the northern part of the Prespa valley, on both sides of the large river, at an altitude of about 880 m. It covers an area of ​​402 ha. Through Resen, the main road M-5 passes, which connects it with Ohrid, and to the east with Bitola. It has a moderate-continental climate with an average annual air temperature of 9.6 ° C and an average annual amount of 717 mm precipitation. The city is incurred by the Roman road Via Ignatia, known as Skitrian. First is mentioned in 1337 In one charter of Tsar Dushan. As a city settlement R. is formed during ⅹⅰⅹ c. Today is a municipality that covers an area of ​​55,077 ha, there are 44 settlements with 16,825 h. It is an administrative and economic center of the entire Prespa valley. The population – mainly Macedonians (6431), and the minorities are mostly the Turks (1369), and Albanians (325) and Roma (169). Employment is the largest in fruit growing, in the cultivation of apples, then in the food and textile industry and the heating bodies factory.
