Thessaloniki Kingdom

Thessaloniki Kingdom (despot) – Epirus state, proclaimed Kingdom (1225/1226), After the epilitary ruler Theodore and took Thessaloniki (1224) and liquidated the Thessaloniki Latin Kingdom. He was crowned by the Ohrid Archbishop Demetrius Homatian, with pretensions, to present himself as the successor and renewer of Byzantium. Rise recorded to the battle of the Quit with the defeat of Theodore (1230), and the government took Manoel, which the state retained on the territory: Thessaloniki – Thessaly – Epirus. The heir John Angel was forced by Nicea ruler John ⅲ Vatac to give up the royal crown and accept the title of the desk (1242), and the state becomes prime. The last ruler, despot Dimitri (son of Theodore and the military failures, handed over the city of Thessaloniki without the struggle of John Vatac (December 1246).
