Snails (gastropage) – mollusk organisms with body composed of head, corpse and foot, placed in bushing. In some types of the shell is absent. Meet on land and water. Feed mainly with plants, and a small number are predatory. In Macedonia, the snails are represented with 267 taxa, of which, endemic are 97; Different aquatic and terrestrial organisms. The aquatic gastropodic fauna is represented by 102 taxa, of which, endemic is 76 (71 species and 5 subspecies). In Ohrid Lake, 58 species are present, most of which are endemic, 52 types. The terrestric gastropodic fauna is not fully explored, but shows great wealth; 165 species were identified, of which 21 are endemic. Snails serve for eating many animals and man. Lit.: A.
