Prespa

Prespa (“sandy compartment”) – the first capital of Samuel (to OK 1000), seat of the Ohrid Archbishopric (then part of the Ohrid diecesis). It was most likely on the small Prespa Lake, on the island of Achilles, where the Church “St. Achilles “With the relics of the saint (brought by Larissa in 986). According to M. Ataliant, Samuel died “on a marshy island Prespa.” The imperial castles were also used by Gavril Radomir and John Vladislav, and finally destroyed by the wage Byzantine armies (1072). Through Prespa passed the famous road Via Egnatia. The first original mention of Prespa is linked to the news of the killing of the Communicator David, between Prespa and Kostur (976). In the s. Herman, Prespa, found Samuel’s epitaph (992/993). Here was the dude ruler John Vladimir (1016). In ⅹⅴⅰ c. One part of the area was naia that brings the same name (the other part of the Name Volkashin), and in ⅹⅴⅰⅰ c. She had 40 villages (E. Celebia).
