Old Slavic language

Old Slavic language – Literary language, on which basis lies the dialect speech of the Macedonian Slavs from the Thessaloniki region. The lexical fund of this speech is enriched with a new lexic, directly undertaken by the Greek language or created on a form of Greek words. The formation of the Old Slavic language and the creation of the Slavic letter is done on a concrete occasion: the translation of biblical and worship books from Greek to the Slavic language for the needs of the Moravian mission. The Old Slavic language is gradually raised at the level of literary language for all Orthodox Slavic peoples. In the new language environments, he is changing under the influence of local dialect speeches, thus forming certain variants of the Old Slavic Language, known in science as separate Reductions / Reviews (Moravanska, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Russian, Serbian, etc.). Sources for the study of the Old Slavic language are the preserved old Slavic manuscripts, as well as some epigraphic monuments, written with a verb or Cyrillic alphabet. By studying these original texts, the development of the Old Slavic language at all levels is monitored, and relevant information on changes in the Old Slavic script is also obtained. Lit.: A.
