Inscriptions

Inscriptions – Entries in Old Slavic language, carved on some hard material. Epigraphic monuments are a very important source of paleographic, linguistic, historical and other aspects. They are of a different genre, but most often tombstones (Samuil’s inscription of 993,, the presidential tombstone of 1060/61) or is the lead. The oldest is Samuil’s inscription of 993. The tombstone of the prince ancestan, the oldest son of Ivan Vladislav, is found in the village. Michalece, East Slovakia. Store in the Earthube Museum. It is a stone block about 0, 55 m wide, 0, 75 m high and 0, 35 m thick. There is a record of 5 rows that is, given the archaicity, very well readable, and he reads: “Here is the prince ancestant born in the summer 6505 (= 996/97) dead in summer 6569 (= 1060/61)”. The letters are similar to Samuil’s inscription. The presidential tombstone circles the complex of epigraphic monuments that relate to Samuil’s royal family. C. D.
