Verkovic, Stephen I. (v. Uglara, Bosnia 5. ⅲ 1821 – Sofia, 30. 1893) – Bosnian freters, archaeologist, collector and published by Macedonian folklore, Serbian and Russian political activist and organizer of antielinism, but also a propagator of Bulgarism in Macedonia. He studied in Zagreb, where under the influence of Lejevit Guy, accepts the ideas of Ilorism, the Yugoslav, and Punzlavism. He leaves for Serbia and works for the benefit of Serbian propaganda – visits Dalmatia, Montenegro and Albania (1843), and then Thessaloniki (1844). In Macedonia, there is a political agent of the Serbian government (1850-1877). It deals with the collection of antiques (manuscripts, numismatic material and art objects) and folklore material, and informs the Serbian government about the situation in Macedonia. Contacts all more significant rebirths. It appears as a significant figure in the overall spiritual-educational and national political life in Macedonia, acting as an anti-patriarchy Deper and a propagator of the Slovenine, but also on the Serbian-Russian orientation. He actively participates in all efforts in the revolutionary liberation movement in Macedonia from that period. Long stay in Russia (until May 1890), and then receives a Bulgarian pension and remains in Sofia to its death. It manages to publish only a single collection with Macedonian folk songs (“National Pesse Makedonski Bugar”, 1860). Unpublished folklore material and the rich personal archive is redeemed by the Ministry of Education of Bulgaria, and part is kept in the library of the Russian Academy of Sciences in S.-Petersburg.
