Rakovski, Paul (v. Lower Storm, Vodan, Aegean part of Macedonia, 24. ⅴ 1913 – Skopje, 9. 1990) – Dice of the Macedonian national movement and the Greek communist movement. Participant in anti-fascist resistance. In the period of World War II, compiled an alphabet of 25 letters in the spirit of the Macedonian-handball in Macedonia. Occurs in the 30s of XX c. As Hazena in Skopje, Kumanovo and Bitola. “The big” handball develops after the liberation (1948-1957). A handball association of Macedonia (1956) was formed, and now a handball federation (since 2002). Handball sections were founded first at the SSD “Student” and SD “Rabotnicki” in Skopje (1948), and then “worker” – Bitola, “Mancho Maliminov” – Negotino, “Military” – Skopje, “Mladost” – Veles, ” Goce Delchev “- Prilep and others. The first republic champion for men (1950) and the winner of the Cup (1955) is RK “Rabotnicki” from Skopje, and for women RC “Graphician from Skopje” (1955, or 1956). “The little” handball was introduced later (1952) and became very popular. Many clubs in the Republic were established and an appropriate system of competitions was organized. In the first Federal League competed: “Rabotnicki”, “Graphic” and “Vardar” – Skopje, “Fighter” – Veles and “Pelagonija” – Bitola, and RK “Skopje” in the women’s League (until 1991). In addition to the players from the RC “Rabotnicki”, representatives of Yugoslavia were Vanco Jovanovski, Gjorgji Gaidov, Pece Dimitrovski, Pepi Manaskov, etc. The Handball Union of Macedonia became a member of the European and the World Handball Federation (after 1992). The male representation was played at the final matches for the European Championship (1998) and the World Cup (1999). The greatest success of the female representation is the seventh place at the World Cup in Germany (1997). The best male teams are: “Pelister” – Bitola, “Vardar Vatrostal” – Skopje, and the best female is “SC Gjorce Petrov” – Skopje. Prominent trainers were: Slavko Matovski, Dragoljub Lazic, Zafir Kunovski, Ljubomir Hristovski, Pance Nikolovski and others, and international judges: Cut Boyjievski, Hristo Dimov, Marjan and Dragan Nachevski and others.
