Mihailov, Ivan.

Mihailov, Ivan (Vanco) (Novo Selo, Stip, 26. ⅷ 1896 – Rome, 5. ⅸ 1990) – Head of VMRO. He was educated in Stip, Thessaloniki and Skopje, where he finished high school (1915). After the First World War he studied right at the University of Sofia, was one of the founders and the first president of the Student Company “Vardar”. After joining VMRO was Secretary of T. Aleksandrov, Punk Chief for Sofia, and after the killing of T. Aleksandrov was a member of the Central CC of VMRO (1925), re-elected after the murder of A. Protogerov (1928). It acted for the unification and independence of Macedonia, but as a Bulgarian country (with the Bulgarian majority population). The independence of Macedonia was viewed by political and state goals, not the national needs of the Macedonian people. The Pirin part of Macedonia watched as a basic core – “Piedmont” to unite the other parts of Macedonia. He was an adherent to an individual terror, took terrorist actions for the winding of opponents. At the time of his management of the Organization in the Pirin part of Macedonia, he established, with the consent of the Bulgarian state, parallel semi-effective power, turning it into its military and financial base. Part of the collected funds for material assistance to the poor, with the kitchens for free meals for the fungisons, for the construction of schools, hospitals, repair of local roads, scholarships for poor students and students, etc. He also engaged in the granting of a country and material assistance to the Bezymen Macedonian refugees. Apply a new strategy in the fight of VMRO: Perform terrorist actions and assassinations of TN. “Triples” and “washers”. He maintained close relations with the government of Bulgaria, and had support and material assistance from Italy. After the 19th of the May 19th and the ban of VMRO (1934), he was secretly transferred to Turkey (officially immigrated), and hence left Poland (1938). In the Second World War he stayed in Zagreb (at A. Pavelic) and co-operated with German military services. Before the end of the war, with the support of the Germans, he came to Macedonia (Skopje, Sept. 1944) with the task of forming a quisling independent Macedonian state, but did not encounter support. After the capitulation of Germany, he emigrated to Austria, then in Italy (Rome), from where he maintained links with the MPO. He died in Rome.
