Katalinic, Marin

Katalinic, Marin (Trogir, Croatia, 20. 1887 – Skopje, 2. ⅻ 1959) – Physicist, Order. Prof. (1945) in Zagreb. He studied mathematics and physics in Zagreb and graduated (1913) in Vienna. Worked as a gymnasium professor, and then at the University of Zagreb. PhD (1928) in Belgrade with a theme for standing waves of circular and elliptical polarized light. He headed with the Institute of PhM Physics in the first decade of its existence, taught the basic objects and formed the collection of demonstration experiments. He published 40 articles abroad and in connection with electrolysis, capillary waves, light scattering, detection of particles with photoemulsions, etc. He is the author of the first physics article in Macedonia and the first physics textbook published at the University of Skopje (“selected parts of mechanics”, 1959). He was the boss (1943-46) of the Institute of Physics in Zagreb, Projector (1949-51) in the formation of the University of Skopje and one of the first Rector (1953-56), President of the DMFM (1952).
