Jaranov, Dimitar

Jaranov, Dimitar (Thessaloniki, 18. ⅹ 1909 – 14. ⅷ 1962) – geographer. He finished primary and secondary education in Sofia. Geography graduated from the Faculty of Historical Faculty of Sofia University (1933). The same d. He left the Humbold’s university in Berlin, where he defended a doctoral dissertation on the topic “The Yurotype Relief of the Alps, Central Europe and Stara Planina,” then departed to specialize physical geography and geomorphology of Sorbonne in Paris. In 1936 He was elected assistant on the physical geography of the Sofia University. In the Second World War he was Attache for Culture at the Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin. After the war he was removed from the Faculty and was forbidden to publish papers in the Bulgarian geographical society. In 1947, at the invitation of the Macedonian Government in Skopje, he was appointed Head of the Hydropower Pro-Learning Service of Macedonia. At the time of the Informbiro returns to Bulgaria, where it works as a major geologist in the construction of large dams. He published 72 scientific and professional papers, mainly in the field of geology, regional geography and cartography.
