German, Gavril (ⅹ c.) – The first head of the Ohrid Archbishopric, set by Emperor Samuel, and confirmed the Roman Pope. He was close to the ruling family of Emperor Samuel and enjoyed great respect. It is thought that after him he received the name Emperor Gavril Radomir, the firstborn Samuel son. He was at the head of the Archbishopric in the first decades of Samuil’s kingdom, when her head office was in Prespa. In Prespa and died at the end of ⅹ c. According to the tradition of the local population, he was buried in the church of today’s Prespa village of German (today in the WG), which received its name after it. Lit.: J.
