Vasily ⅰ (811 – 29. ⅷ 886) – Byzantine Emperor (867-886), founder of the Macedonian dynasty. He strengthened the position of Byzantium and expanded the Byzantine church influence in Bulgaria (869/70, winning Roman legs for the affiliation of the Bulgarian church), in the Slavs of the Western Balkans and in Kievan Russia. His legislative activity is represented in “Vasiliki” (six books), “Propho” (manual for practical use) and “Epanagoga”. Lit.: V.
