Tambura

Tambura – General term for many types of wired instruments, which according to the shape of each other very much differ. The difference consists in the number of votes (and wires), from which various terms arise for this instrument. Thus, the unanimous tamboura of two degrades of wires is called a litard or Ikellija, the two-year-old tambles (two two degrades) are called four, Chiftelia, Karaden, Bozuk or sixth (in two places after three degrades wires). In all of them, the tone is obtained with small strokes on the strings with a pider. There are about 750-900 mm long (neck 360- 500 mm, and the corpus 250-300 mm). Their most common function is to accompany the folk songs. Lit.: Dr. Aleksandar Linin, People’s Musical Instruments in Macedonia, Skopje, 1986, 39. F. M. F.
