Railways in Macedonia

Railways in Macedonia – an important segment in the development of the economy in Macedonia, but also with political significance. The first h. A line in Macedonia is Thessaloniki-Veles-Skopje towards Belgrade. It began to be built with foreign capital in 1871, and Skopje was completed in 1873. In 1888 he was associated with Serbian railways at the border crossing point in Vranje. Z. Line Skopje-K. Mitrovica was completed in 1878, and Thessaloniki-Lerin-Bitola in 1894 During the First World War, for the needs of its armies, German and Bulgarian authorities built the narrow line (60 cm) City-Prilep-Bitola (through Pletvar) and Skopje-Gostivar-Kicevo-Ohrid-Struga. In 1925-1926 Bi-La built the line Veles-co-timetable of the Macedonian Railways: Thessaloniki-Skopje, and in 1931 Veles-Prilep-Bitola. After 1945, besides the rebuilding, a new variant of J.L was built. Gorge-Miravci, in 1951-1956. J.L. Skopje-Tetovo-Gostivar-Kicevo, as well as Zajas-Taceme (1966). Initiatives for Railway Connection of Macedonia to Bulgaria, there were Turkish (1912), from the Bulgarian (1943) and the Macedonian government (1946). In 1992, with the decision of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia began the construction of h. Line Skopje-Sofia, which, however, is not over.
