Protection of land ecosystems. In Macedonia, these processes began immediately after the liberation. To protect the terrestrial ecosystems, three national parks have been established: the National Park “Pelister” (1948) was formed, where the co-protected , the els, beech, beech-eles and oak forests, and since 1958. The National Park “Galichica” was established, where the oak, beech and beech-leak forests are protected. They include locations with significant refugums that are rich in preserved relict species. In parallel with these activities, with the forestry bases, which prepared forest holdings, the Republic determines norms for rational use of the forest fund in order to support the productive power of forests in Macedonia.
