Matov, Dimitar

Matov, Dimitar (Veles, 1864 – Dresden, Germany, 1896) – One of the most secrived Bulgarian and Macedonian folklorists, whose papers are characterized by a high degree of coursework. In Veles he started tuition, which he completed in Russia (gymnasium and faculty) in Ukrainian cities of Nikolaev and Kharkov. The Historical and Philology Faculty in Kharkov (present-day Ukraine) listened to lecturists in A. A. Element, and history among Marin Drino. Upon completion of higher education, he returns to Macedonia, where in the school year 1888/89. He begins his career at a teacher in the Thessaloniki Bulgarian gymnasium. In this period, his increased interest in language and folklore begins, and it is systematic and tirelessly studies the Macedonian cultural tradition. It becomes an editor of the magazine “bookmarks for a reading”, which issues the bookstore of the Bookstore of the Black Samardziev. The Thessaloniki remains only two years. He is leaving for Vienna and Leipzig of Specialization in Slavic Philology at professors Jagic and Leskin. He then moves to Sofia, where he is first a high school teacher, and then appointed a collaborator in the scientific journal of prof. Ivan D. Shishmanov “Unlawed for folk empathy, science and literature”, on which in six years he impresses the marks of a high-haul newsletter. In the same period, he actively cooperates in the journal “Bílgar Review”, which publishes a series of papers in the field of history, language and folklorics. He represents the thesis of Bulgarian origin of the Macedonian Slavs and polemized with the opponents of this view. Famous are the “notes on the ethnography of Macedonia”, in which Concertations with P. D. Draganov, K. Chron, S. Gopcevic, Stojan Novakovic, etc. Shorter time is involved in socio-political events of time, and works as secretary of the Supreme Macedonian Committee, on whose head was a Trajko Kitancev. He dies very young after an unsuccessful operation in Dresden. Death is distinguished as a professor at the Sofia University. He left modest traces in poetry, counting her as “sin of youth”. D. T.
