Macedonia first

Macedonia first (Macdomonia receives) – a late antique province based in Thessalonica (Thessaloniki). Within the administrative provincial reorganization of the Kingdom, Diocletian divided the Ranorian province of Macedonia into two parts. The province of Macedonia first belonged to the diecesis Macedonia. Its territory covered the areas of Lower Macedonia: the lower course of Haliakmon, the lower course of Axius (from Demir Kapija to the mouth) and the lower strimate. The southern part encompassed the Highland Pelagonia with the city of Heraclea Linkestida, Bitola. More important cities were Philippi, Dion, Edess, Boyeno and Pella. In the north, the province stretched on the territory that today occupies the Republic of Macedonia, more precisely, the regions of Bitola, Resen, Valandovo, Gevgelija and Strumica. Lit.: F.
