Krzali – Muslim abolents in the Ottoman Empire that came to the transition from ⅹⅴⅰⅰⅰ in ⅹⅰⅹ c. Opponents of the central government, large Ajani and Pashi in Rumelia, hired them to fight the Sultan armies. In Macedonia, they specially expanded to the Rhodope Mountains, Shar Planina, Skopska Crna Gora, Plejskovica and Ograzden. Grouped in large companies, well-armed and equipped with horses, they lightly attacked villages, cities, chifli, monasteries, and then quickly retreated.
