Isshirkov, Anastas

Ishirkov, Anastas (Lovech, 5. ⅳ 1868 – Sofia, 6. 1937) – Bulgarian geographer. He finished elementary education in Lovech, and a gymnasium in Gabrovo and Tarnovo. History studies ended at the higher school in Sofia (1891), and geography in Leipzig (Germany), where he defended a doctorate in the field of geography (1895). One year is a professor of geography in the Sofia’s high school, and then left the specialization of geography at the Berlin University. At the Geographical Institute of Histor-Anastas, Iishkov, the Faculty of Philology in Sofia, was elected assistant (1898), for extraordinary (1903) and for full professor (1909). Three mandates was the Dean of the Faculty, then Rector of Sofia University, and since 1906. and a full-time member of Ban. He was a member of the Bulgarian delegation for signing the Bucharest Peace Accord in 1913, a member of the Macedonian Scientific Institute and a long-standing associate of the magazine “Macedonian Review”. He wrote a number of papers in the field of economic geography, anthropogoography, geomorphology, hydrography and climatology.
