Versati

Versiti – Slavic tribe. Towards the end of ⅵ and the beginning of ⅶ c. They settled in Macedonia on the territories north of Thessaloniki, and later retreated deeper into the interior. In alliance with other tribes, they participated in the Byzantium attacks (614-616), raving the Aegean islands, Southern Ilirik, Epirus, Helada, the shores of Thessaly and the Thessaloniki attack (616). It is considered that the name has Iranian origin (Berestant-high). Sometimes they connect with ethnonym brisks, for the population between Ohrid, Prilep and Veles. Lit.: T.
