Vardery – Byzantine theme in XI, ⅻ and ⅹⅰⅰⅰ c. It occupied the territories in the lower course of the river Vardar. It is mentioned as a separate military standstimate unit headed by a trustee. The agreement concluded between the Crusaders and Venetians for the division of Byzantium (ⅲ 1204), the province (topic) was envisaged among themselves to divide the Crusaders. Litt.: B.
