Tolstoy, Leo Nikolaevich (Jasna Polyana, Tulsko, Russia, 28. 1828 – Clear Polyana, 7. ⅺ 1910) Leo Nikolevich Tolstoy – Russian writer with world glory, author of the novels “War and Peace”, “Resurrection”, “Anna Karenina, “the death of Ivan Ilich,” etc. It is especially interested for Macedonians in the fact that he allocated important and life-giving in the years before Ilinden (1903), for our destiny of suppressed and enslaved people in the mengeme of the Ottoman Empire. On December 23, 1898 In his home in Clear Polyana, he is visited by Dimitar Rizov (Bulgarian publicist and a diplomat of Macedonian origin) and asked to raise his authoritative voice in protection and moral support of the Macedonians. Notes from talks with the great writer Dimitar Rizov publishes in the Sofia’s Literary magazine “Missíl” (REC. Ⅲ and ⅳ, 1900). The meeting contributed to the recommendation that D. Rizov received from the Russian Macedonian Miljukov. Leo Nikolaevich does not accept the invitation and the application to raise his voice in the protection of enslaved and disfigured Macedonia. The refusal explains with the platform of his teaching (trestyism) for the lack of evil and that every human power is opposed. The historical, religious and moral views of Tolstoy are a barrier before the decision to be said by an appeal in front of the world to defend the Macedonians. It is at that time served by an utopian idea of ​​creating a more just society through the movement of the people. In the Fund of this movement, he invested all his fee from the novel “Resurrection”.
