Simeon Great (864 or 865 – 27. ⅴ 927) – Prince (893-913) and King (913-927), the most famous ruler of the first Bulgarian Empire. Guided successful fighting with Byzantium. He won Thrakia, Macedonia (to Thessaloniki, 904), Albania and Raska; defeated by Croats. He transferred the capital in Preslav, and in the Bulgarian church he introduced the Slavic instead of the previous Greek. Lit.: I. Christmas, King Simeon Great (893-927).
