Servic – medieval city in southern Macedonia (on the road from Macedonia in Thessaly), a theme, an episcopal seat. The fortress was located on a steep hill accessed only from the north side. Samuel conquered (989), Basil returned it under Byzantine rule (1001) and captured her commander nicola. He conquered him from Serbs John Cantaku (1350), then fell under Ottoman rule (1393). Lit.: A.
