Referendums in the Republic of Macedonia

Referendums in the Republic of Macedonia – the immediate democracy in which citizens declare a certain issue. Two referendum were held in the Republic of Macedonia. The first referendum was held at 8. ⅸ 1991, after a previous decision of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, and the citizens declared the question: “Are you for a sovereign and independent state of Macedonia with the right to enter into a future union of sovereign states of Yugoslavia? “From 1,495,807 registered citizens – voters, 1,132,981, or 75.74% of the electoral body in the Republic of Macedonia have joined the referendum. From this issue, “1,079,308 voted, or 72.16% of the total registered citizens, or 95.25% of those who approached the statement. They voted “against” 39,639 citizens, or 3.50% of those who went to the referendum statement. The second referendum was held at 7. ⅺ 2004, after the previous initiative of 180,454 citizens, and the citizens declared the question: “Are you for the territorial organization of the local self-government (municipalities and the City of Skopje) determined by the Law on Territorial Division of the Republic of Macedonia and determining the areas of the units of local self-government (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia, No. 49/96) and the Law on the City of Skopje (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia, No. 49/96)? “. Out of a total of 1,709,536 registered voters, 436,202, or 26.24% of the total number of voters came out in the referendum statement. Of them, 409,886 voted “for”, and 21,471 were “against”. The SEC declared the referendum on failed, as the response was less than 50% of the total number of the electoral body in the Republic of Macedonia.
