Mitrovden – calendar holiday dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius (8. ⅺ / 26. J). It is also known as Mitroen. St. Dimitri lived in the third century. He was born in Thessaloniki and was the son of the mayor of this city. Later he himself became the mayor. Because he was a Christian, he suffered on October 26 (SS) 306 or 290 According to the folk division of the year into two parts, due to significantly reduced day, cold weather, etc., this day ends the summer period of the year and the winter begins. Hence, the People’s Prison: “Do not Mitrovden come, wait for Smurgjovden.” Many families in Macedonia Mitrovden have it as a homely holiday and celebrate domestic services, with kneaded ritual loaves, waiting guests, etc. In some places, massive fairs are maintained. Many churches and monasteries in Macedonia are dedicated to St. Dimitria. On this day, rural cleaners, cattle, Momocci, shepherds, etc. For half a year to Gjorgjovden or next to the next Mitrovden. For Momocers on that day, dinner was prepared and the principal was paid (earnings) for the past period. Mitrovden celebrated the Turks and called Kasim and then organized Mitrovdan hunting (casiman).
