Mervin, William S

Mervin, William S. (New York, 7. 1927) – American poet and translator of poetry (from French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian). The first poetry under the title Mask for Janus published in 1952. Then the poetry bears playing (1954), drunk in oven (1960), lice (1967), Stair carrier (1970, Pulitzer Prize, which was refused), compass-flower (1977). His songs, mostly narrative, combined with mythological matrices on which are based, achieved an unusual surreal atmosphere. Winner of the Golden Wreath of the SVP in 2005 Lit.: Z.
