Martinoski, Nicholas.

Martinoski, Nikola (Krusevo, 18. 1903 – Skopje, 7. 1973) – Painter, pedagogue, one of the founders of MANU, one of the most prominent representatives of the Macedonian contemporary painting, with a pioneering merit for the inclusion of Macedonian fine arts in modernist flows . He graduated from the School of Nice Arts in Bucharest (1927). From 1927 to 1928 He visited the academies of Grand Shomier (Grand Charmyere) and Early Dream (Ranche) in Paris. He was a participant in the NOB and director of UG in Skopje (1949-1973). Independently exhibited in Skopje, Belgrade, Zagreb. Retrospective exhibition was in Skopje (MoCA, 1975). In the period 1927-1928, he created works with post-probability and expressionist orientation with affinities for the work of Sutin (Southern), Modilies (Modliens), Ksling (Ksling): Chess players, 1928. The works of the expressionist phase (1929-1933), according to the psychological and existential Atmosphere, get closer to German expressionists. During this period, he created his most significant works with social motifs, in which he presented people from the margins (Miss Areti, 1931, a vice, 1931/32; in cafe ⅱ, 1932), portraits (young philosopher, Nikola Martinoski, “Bride” ( 1937) 1929; self-portrait, 1931), symbolic and religious scenes, landscapes. Since 1933 He painted compositions with the motive mother and a child, according to Models of Romani women (mother with a child, 1934). In 1935 He painted 12 erotic murals (now destroyed) in the Skopje local “Ocean”. In the next period, he painted in the spirit of social realism (beggar, 1940) present in his work until the fifties, when the paintings with Krusevski motifs were created, painted on an almost caricature way. He worked drawings and cartoons, in which a satirical way showed the phenomena of modern life.
