Makedonski Telekomunikacii – The leading national telecommunications operator provides public telecommunication services in the Republic of Macedonia. By the end of 1996 The company functioned under the name PTT “Macedonia” and provided the mass building of Makedonski Telekomunikacii in Skopje Tender, telecommunication and banking services (postal savings house). In order to prepare for privatization, in early 1997, PTT split up to JSC “Makedonski Telekomunikacii” and JSC “Macedonian Posts”, and in March 1998. The company is registered as a state-owned joint stock company. In January 2000, the consortium led by the Hungarian National Telecommunications Company Matav (now “Magyar Telekom”) redeemed 51% of the shares of JSC “Makedonski Telekomunikacii” and became its dominant owner. Today, the company’s ownership structure is the following: “Stone Bridge Communications” AD Skopje owns 51% of the shares, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia 34.81%, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) 1.88%, JSC “Makedonski Telekomunikacii” 10%, and The remaining 2.31% of the shares belong to minority shareholders. JSC “Makedonski Telekomunikacii” enters the rank of the largest and most profitable companies in the Republic of Macedonia.
