Karaman, Stanko

Karaman, Stanko (1889 – 1959) – founder of the Natural History Museum, the zoo and the Skopje Park. He came to Macedonia (1924), working on the Ihtiofauna and published his study of Pisels Macedonia. He published more than 120 scientific papers in which he cultivates taxonomy of fish, birds, reptiles and many groups of scallic organisms. Most of the newly recorded species and subspecies bear the name of Macedonia, the river Vardar and large mountain massifs in Macedonia. Described more than 60 species and subspecies. The founder is also the museum magazines “ACTA” and “Fragment Balkanica”. R. Gr.
