Ignatiev, Nikolai Pavlovich (S.-Petersburg, 29. 1832 – Krupoders, Kievan Gubbernia, 3. ⅲ 1908) – Russian Count, General and diplomat, Punzlavist and chairman of the council of the Sanktterburg Slavic Slavic Society (SPBSBD). Graduated from the General Staff Academy (1851). After entering the diplomatic service (1856), he stayed in Bukhara and China (1857 & 1860), and then he was director of the Asian Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1961 & 1864). He was a Russian MP (1864 & 1867) and ambassador (1867 & 1977) to Constantinople. As a good connoisseur of the Balkan problems, it encouraged the Balkan liberation movements to combat the Ottoman Empire. He helped the resolution of the Bulgarian Church issue (1870). He had a decisive attitude against the Union movement in Macedonia (1873 & 74). In order to ensure neutrality of major European forces before the forthcoming Russian-Ottoman war, he made a diplomatic tour of Berlin, Vienna, London and Paris (February & March 1877). He was one of the initiators for holding and author of the draft of the Constantinople Conference (1876 & 1877), with Macedonia as a separate province. He received a county title (1877) and a general act (1878). He was the author of the draft and signatory of the preliminary Santefanic Peace Accord (3. ⅲ 1878). Due to his revision of the Berlin Congress (1878) he withdrew from the active diplomatic service. He was Minister of State Properties (1881 & 1882), Minister of Interior (1882) and a member of the State Council and Senator (1882). For merit for Bulgaria, he was elected as an honorary member of the Bulgarian bookway (1902). As chairman of the Council of the SPBSBD, he advocated the protection and assistance of Macedonian refugees in Bulgaria, announced the expected uprising, but pessimistic viewed the Macedonian liberation movement, and the uprising assessed it for premature.
