Hariton

Hariton – Jeromonk, Ohrid Archbishop (21. ⅹ 1641 – 1651). The Abboven German of the Kreshen’s monastery “Dormition of the Virgin” from Kostur Region received a signed gram of it as an archbishop, designed for the Russian king. There are other preserved gramothies with his Archbishoptopic Purification, intended for his bishops who went to collect alms in Russia (the Caropholian Bishop Neofit – 1644-1645, Graves Metropolitan Sergius – 1645, Korchan Metropolitan Gavril – September 1646 and the Kostur Metropolitan Cyprian – 1651 ). These were economically difficult years of poverty and indebtedness of the Ohrid Archbishopric, which asked for material assistance from the Russian Patriarch and from the Russian King for the purchase of the pledged church valuables. There are assumptions that he was again elected Archbishop (1651). Lit.: Ivan Snarar, Historge of the Ohrid Arhoepspiscopy, t. 2.
