Gynecocastros

Gynecocastros (Female, Auret Hisar) – Medieval Byzantine determination, about 14 km southwest of Kukush (Kilkis). He raised Emperor Andronicus ⅲ Paleologist (1328-1341) to protect Thessaloniki from the attacks from the north. It was very well determined by towers and solid ramparts, so that women could defend it. Therefore, it received the name Gynecastron – female city.
