Demnevski, Alexa

Demnevski, Alexovski (Possud. Bowman) (Veles, 1905 – Belgrade, 5. IX 1961) – A member of the workers’ and communist movement, participant in the Spanish Civil War, Lieutenant General of the JNA. He was a member of the CPY (since 1926). In 1928 He went to the USSR, where he finished the Communist University (1932). He was on various duties in the Moscow Obestra, and in 1934. He was Major of the Red Army and the commander of a brigade. From 1936 to 1939 He participated in the Spanish Civil War as the commander of the Battalion “Djuro Djakovic” and the Brigade “Georgi Dimitrov” and was twice wounded. After the defeat of the Spanish republican army, he traveled to the USSR. In December 1944 He returned to Yugoslavia and was appointed commander of ⅹⅴ Macedonian corps of the JNA that fought on the Srem Front.
