Ben Lev, Josef (Bitola, 1500 – Thessaloniki, 1580) – Rabin, Specialist in Jewish Law. He moved to Thessaloniki (1534), became president of the Jewish court in Thessaloniki. Defend the interests of Thessaloniki Guilds for the production of fabrics within the feudal guidance crafts. He was faulted as the protector of the poor Jews. He came into conflict with representatives of the Jewish elite, so his sons were killed, and he had to escape to Istanbul. The author of fourth, questions and answers) printed in Constantinople (1556, 1573 and 1597). His “represses” were reprinted in two volumes in Amsterdam (1726).
