Monastery hospitals. The medieval medical doctrine propagated by Byzantium was under the control of the Church and its perceptions that intertwined with the checked medical knowledge. The beginnings of medieval medicine appear in churches and the monasteries. The first monastery hospitals were primarily humanitarian institutions, in which spiritual and physical medicine was conducted and advice to the sick were given. They played a major role in the development of medical thought and hospital health care in our country. St. Cyril and St. Methodius and their students St. Clement and St. Naum Ohrid, besides the huge educational activity, were the founders of medical science, especially the monastic hospital service, preventive and social medicine in Macedonia and beyond. The oldest was the Clement Hospital in the monastery “St. Panteleimon “in Ohrid (ⅸ c.), Then” St. Naum Ohridski “,” St. Doct “in Bitola,” St. Joachim Osogovski “near Kriva Palanka, the hospital in the monastery” St. Archangel Michael “dedicated to Gavril Lesnovski, etc. P.
