Action

Action (Jizi) (ⅹⅳ-ⅹⅰⅹ c.) – State tax in the Ottoman Empire that the working age of non-Muslim subjects were paid to the state as a sign of obedience and loyalty. In return, these subjects acquired certain civil rights and freedom of religion. Was abolished in the middle of ⅹⅰⅹ c. Synonym: Jizie.
