Garvanov, Ivan (Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, 1869 – Sofia, 28. Xi 1907) – Bulgarian by nationality, president of TMORO’s CC (1901-1903), chief initiator for the Uprising decision (1903). He graduated physics and mathematics in Sofia (1892). He specialized in Vienna. Professor in the Thessaloniki Exarchical Gymnasium (1894-1903). President of the Bulgarian Secret Revolutionary Brotherhood (1897-1899). He maintained links with the Bulgarian government, with the Exarchate and the VMK. After the dissolution of the Brotherhood (IX 1899) co-operated for a member of the Thessaloniki District Committee. After the Thessaloniki Provana (and 1901), he became president of the TMORO CC. In autumn 1902 With the border representatives, Hristo Matov and Hristo Tatarchev took action to lift an uprising in Macedonia. Under his presidency, Thessaloniki Congress of TMORO (2-4 / 15-17. Ⅰ 1903), on which a decision was made for the uprising. After Thessaloniki assassinations were arrested and sentenced to lifelong strainness. After amnestrication (1904) he returned to Bulgaria and worked as a lecturer at the military school. Acted after instructions from the Bulgarian government.
