Proshev, Thomas (Skopje, 10. 1931 – Island Zailan, Croatia, 12. ⅸ 1996) – Composer. One of the most prominent authors in Macedonian contemporary music. He studied in Zagreb and Ljubljana (L. M. Strokeryanz), where he finishes postgraduate studies in composition. It is perfected in N. Bunner in Paris. He works as a professor in Zagreb (1959-1967), and then taught at the Faculty of Music in Skopje (19671991). In Skopje, he formed an Ensemble for Contemporary Music “St. Sophia” (1968), which experiences great success in Macedonia and outside, performing modern works of composers from the entire former Yugoslav space. Writing easily and easier, it creates an original musical speech, such as synthesis of diverse compositional techniques from the second half of ⅹⅹ c. Macedonian music enriches with numerous works by the chamber, symphonic, concert and especially the oratorian and musician genre. Three creative stages stand out in his opus. In the first phase shows an affinity towards the actuality of time, bringing a certain dose of romantic sensibility, which will keep it later. In the second phase, since the beginning of the sixties of ⅹⅹ c., P. It starts in an adventure towards the unexplored sound spaces, taking more compositional-technical and stylish directions of contemporary music of time. The third creative phase takes place since the beginning of the seventies to the end of his life and creation. In its poor performance, it uses purified and unobtrusive technique, striving for as simplistic and humble musical speech, as a result of the definitive formation of their own artistic physiognomy.
