Osogovski Mountains

Osogovo Mountains – a high and huge mountain massif, which with its morphoplasty dominates the eastern part of the Republic of Macedonia. It stretches between the gloom valley in the north, the Kocani valley in the south, Pijanec in the southeast, the Kumanovo valley in the West, the Probistip-Zletovo basin in the southeast, the Strumica Basin and the Kyustendil Valley of Yi. As a natural whole stretching in two countries, the Osogovo mountain massif occupies a total area of ​​1,535 km², of which the Republic of Macedonia belongs 1,102 km² or 71.8%, while 443 km² or 28.2% of the Republic of Bulgaria. After its surface is the second mountain in the Republic of Macedonia (after Jakupica). The highest peaks are Ruen (2,252 m) and Ca-Rev Peak (Sultan Tepe) (2,085 m). Osogovo mountain massif belongs to the Rhodopian zone, which is the oldest land of the Balkan Peninsula. Tectonic movements that were affected by this mountain conditioned to be raised, wounded and crushed, and it was formed as Horst. The geological composition is presented with Precambrian metamorphics and Paleozoic shales. During the tertia, intensive volcanic activity took place, which allowed the creation of large reserves of lead ore.
