OMO Ilinden

OMO “Ilinden” (Sandanski, 14. ⅳ 1990) – Macedonian National Political Organization in the Pirin part of Macedonia in the Republic of Bulgaria. Formed as the only united Macedonian organization OMO “Ilinden”. In the organization, VMRO (independent) “Ilinden”, the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Macedonians from the Pirin Part of Macedonia, the cultural and educational company “Jane Sandanski” from the village of McKevo and the Committee of Repressed Macedonians in the Pirin part of Macedonia. Stojan Georgiev was elected for the first president. The Bulgarian authorities refused to register the Macedonian organization (1990-1992). In addition to the construction activities of the structure, the organization organized public events and was presented at international conferences. OMO President Ilinden was in the composition of the All-Macedonian delegation at the European Security and Cooperation Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark (ⅵ 1990). Due to the refusal of registration, OMO “Ilinden” submitted a lawsuit against the Republic of Bulgaria before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (1995). With the judgment of that court (October 2001), the Republic of Bulgaria was convicted of non-compliance with the minority rights of the Macedonians.
