Karate in Macedonia – New sports discipline in our country. Dominated two styles: Shot-Kahn and Wado-Ryu. The Karate Union of Macedonia was established in Skopje, headed by Cvetan Cvetkovski (1972). It registered 15 clubs and 17 sections with about 9000 members, of which 1305 competitors in male and female competition. The first Championship of Macedonia and Cup of Yugoslavia (1968) was organized. Later, the Federal Karate League competed “Vardar” and “Rabotnicki” from Skopje. Macedonian Karatists successfully participated in the federal and international championships and competitions and achieved noticeable results (1991-2006). Among the most successful are: Dimce Kicevski, Petar Belistjanovski, Mirce Opelovski, Nazim Kurtic, Jorgo Ognenovski, Luisza Gashevska, Dejan Nedev, Elvir Kurtanovic.
