Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics – Center of teaching and scientific work in the field of chemistry in our country. High school teaching in chemistry has begun in 1946. At the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Philosophy. At the beginning there was only one assistant (Dimce Toshev). In the academic year 1947/48 He is elected a lecturer in inorganic chemistry, and Dr. Joseph Januv for a lecturer in organic chemistry. In the following (1948/49) Dr. Kr Kra Craivers in 1951 was elected as an analytical chemistry in 1951. Prof. Dr. Gilbert Formians, and assistants were gradually selected. In 1953 The “annual Proceedings” were printed the first scientific papers of the members of the Department of Chemistry. Until the end of the Gazi Baba building (1951), the lectures were maintained in different premises across Skopje. During 1952 and 1953 In the Gazi Baba building, laboratories for chemistry exercises are prepared and completed with the necessary installations. In 1960, within the PMF (constituted in 1958), preparations for the construction of the new building of the Chemical Institute were initiated, delivered in use in October 1968. In allocating the natural and mathematical department from the composition of the Faculty of Philosophy and the formulation of the PMF, the Department of Chemistry turned into a chemical institute with three institutes: for inorganic and analytical, organic and physical chemistry. The first head of the Chemical Institute is Gilbert Formians, and the function of the head of Dimce Toshev was long ago. At first, the teaching for all students would-la equal, and later divided into two directions – applied and teaching. In 1959 The PMF is defended the first doctoral dissertation (Dimce Toshev), and in 1960. and the second (Ivan Petrov). In the academic year 1973/74 Postgraduate studies are organized in inorganic and analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and after molecular spectroscopy. In 1976, during the process of reform of the University, from the staff of the Chemical Institute and TMF, the Chemical Faculty (four institutes in its composition) is established. At the Chemical Faculty Deans were Dimce Toshev (1976-1979 and 1983-1985) and Ivan Petrov (1979-1983). The faculty there were about 65 teachers and associates – who performed, wholly or in part, teaching in basic chemical disciplines and other faculties. An associated international cooperation was developed, laboratory equipment, scientific production became significant, and more educational aids were issued. A “Annual Proceedings of the Chemical Faculty” is published, and there is the editorial office of the new magazine “Magical of chemists and technologists of Macedonia”. In the process of “rationalization” of the University, the re-formation of the PMF is established, within which the Institute of Chemistry is constituted as a work unit with 4 institutes.: Natural Sciences and Mathematics – Skopje, 1946-1996, Skopje, 1996, 195; 60 years of natural and mathematical faculty – Skopje, Skopje, 2006, 211.
