Djakonovski-Spato, Dragan

Djakonovski-Spato, Dragan (Skopje, 11. 1931 – Skopje, 3. ⅰ 1987) – Composer, arranger, conductor. He gave an exceptional contribution to the development of popular music in Macedonia. The first Dragan deaconiscup contact with Jazz heard foreign radio stations (Voice of America, Radio Luxembourg). He formed (1948) Student Academic Jazz Ensemble. Since 1950 He works in Radio Skopje, where he founded and led the Dance Orchestra of MRT. He quickly became one of the leading arrangers and orchesters in the then Yugoslavia. It has a fascinating opus that includes about 5,000 arrangements for small compositions, Big-band orchestras, string ensembles and for the rulers orchestra. He wrote a few tenths of his own compositions (“Lenny”, “Zar was going”, “silent one valley”, etc.) in which he left his recognizable copyright and arrangement that was a guide for many future authors in this type of music.
