Ham, Josip (Josip Hamm) (GOT, Croatia, 3. ⅹⅰⅰ 1905 – Vienna, Austria, 23. 1986) – Croatian and Austrian linguist and fighter. Upon completion of the studies of Slavistics and Germanism in Zagreb, he studied polisms and Slavistics at the universities in Krakow, Warsaw and Ljuv (1928 & 1930), and he received Philosophy (1941). He taught Old Slavic language and comparative Slavic grammar at the University of Zagreb (1948 & 1960), when he shifted to the University of Vienna, where he taught Josip Ham Slavic Philology (1960 & 1976). He is a member of Huzu (1956) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (1966), where he managed the Balkan Grade, and a member of the MANA outside the working composition (1979). He was an associate of the Old Slavic Institute in Zagreb and the editor of the SP. “Word”, Honorary Doctor of Wroclavian (1973) and the Kiev University (1983) and long-time vice president of the International Slavic Committee. There are special merit (along with prof. F. V. Marsh) for organizing Macedonian teaching at the Vienna University.
