Metallurgy in the Republic of Macedonia – Area of science and technique that is engaged in the processing of metals, alloys, etc. Metallurgy as an activity is present on the territory of Macedonia even before our era. Thus, in the mine Alshar, Mariovo, an arsenic, antimony and chromium explained in Roman times. In the Middle Ages, experienced miners are settled, for example, Sassy, hence the name Sassa on the lead mine and zinc. The name Samokov, in Makedonski Brod, originated from the name of the causing in which the hammer is raised using the water wheel. Contemporary metallurgy begins after World War II with the construction of “Jugohrom” combines – Jegunovce, “Metal Institute Tito” – Skopje, Mines and Iron “Skopje”, “Alumina” – Skopje, “Smelter for lead and zinc” – Veles, “Feni “- Kavadarci and others, which produce and partially process the mine” Timmere “, the richest raw base of iron base in Skopje steel, ferroalloys (ferrosilicon, ferrochrome, ferroman, ferronickel, etc.) Lead, zinc, aluminum, silver, indium etc. Before the transition of ownership, metallurgy is the leading export industrial activity in the Republic of Macedonia. In the transition, almost complete standstill occurs. With privatizing and taking over foreign owners metallurgical companies revive and work more success than ever. Metallurgy is an activity with intensive use of raw materials, energy and water and generating waste gases, leads and troons.
