Kapodistrias, Ioannis (Corfu, 11th ⅱ 1776 – Iowpination, 9. 1831) – First State Secretary of the Ionian Republic (1800-1807); Russian Foreign Minister (1816-1822) and the first president of Greece (1828). The Russian emperor sent a project for dividing European Turkey to five states (1827), among which he proposed to create “kingdom of Macedonia”. He failed to unite the various Greek political forces, was killed by opponents.
