Andronicus ⅱ Paleologist

Andronicus ⅱ Paleologist (1259/60 – 1332) – Byzantine emperor (1282-1328). Conducted tax reform and increased state revenues. He gave up the Union with the Roman Catholic Church. To combat the Ottomans in Asia Asia called mercenaries from Catalonia (1303). The last years he spent in a fight with grandson, Andronicus ⅲ, who forced him to abdicate. He died as a monk Anthony.
