Mines and ironmarica Skopje

Mines and ironmarica “Skopje” – metallurgical complex for obtaining and processing iron and steel. The greatest object of black metallurgy in the Republic of Macedonia. It was projected since 1959, built since 1961, and works since 1967. Built plants: Smelter (for the production of cruel iron in 5 electrical, each with a capacity of 20 to 30 mg); Steelwork (for refining iron to low carbon steel); Valvnica for misconceptions and sheets (so-called hot roller); Balvinica for thin strips (so-called. “Halflands”) and cold roller (which performs hot galvanization and plasticizing part of the strips); Energy, etc. The mines in Oslomej and Damjan, due to the poor quality of iron ore are closed in the second half of the 1980s, and the smelter in the early 1990s. It is originally imagined production of 400,000 m year, but later varied. The steel is produced first in converter, and today exclusively in the steamer. The most productive period is from 1973 to 1987. With the privatization of certain plants, since 2000. Onward, production is revived. Within the Makstil, with waste of waste iron in the electoral and continuous investment in increasing and modernizing production, as well as environmental protection, production exceeds previous records. Within the “Mittal”, the production program of cold roller continues, especially the galvanization of strips. In “Skopje alloys”, Ferroman and other ferroalloys are produced, while the “Energy” section works in “ELEM” (part of the former electricity of Macedonia). With this revival of the successorians of mines and ironmarica “Skopje”, this segment becomes significant in the total industrial and export activity in the Republic of Macedonia. Lit.: S.
